2024 Shapiro/Rouse Lecture Welcomes Hugo Kugiya, Reporter for The Baltimore Banner
Hugo Kugiya, a roving, regional reporter for The Baltimore Banner whose beat focuses on counties outside of Baltimore City, will be the featured speaker at the 16th annual Shapiro/Rouse lecture to be held Wednesday, October 23 at 2:00 p.m in the Claire Moore Room in Garrison Student Union. He will give a lecture entitled, 鈥淪torytelling Will Get You Everywhere: Communication in the Age of AI.鈥 His insights will be of great interest to Communication Studies students, but also students interested in Marketing and Business Communications, as well as any student interested in learning how artificial intelligence can influence creative careers.
Before joining The Baltimore Banner, Kugiya served as a national correspondent for the Associated Press and Newsday, and was a sportswriter for The Seattle Times. He recently won first place in the 2023 Associated Press Sports Editors contest. Kugiya is also the author of 58 Degrees North: The Mysterious Sinking of the Arctic Rose, a non-fiction book delving into the 2001 sinking of the fishing trawler Arctic Rose.
