Jack Of Many Trades; Master of All

Matt Resnik
Business Administration and Accounting

Matt Resnik ‘21 belies the figure of speech “jack of all trades, master of none.” Since his early years, Matt has been laser-focused on intersecting his passions for business, entrepreneurship, and finance. Born from an executive in the healthcare industry and an owner of a data management company, Matt has known for as long as he can remember that he wanted his own hands in the business world. “Growing up, I started a small LLC. My friends and I would shovel driveways when it snowed, cut grass, and make t-shirts on the side,” Matt says. Also co-running a cupcake business with a family friend and even selling broken pieces of granite and other valuable finds to friends, he had a distinct passion for making money.

Choosing Stevenson came easy to Matt: “It was already on my radar.” His sister, Lindsay, graduated from SU’s Nursing program in 2016, “and she went on to become one of the top nurses in her field,” says Matt. He arrived at Stevenson a determined Business Administration major, but through undertaking summer- and winter-term classes and CLEP tests, as well as utilizing his AP and transfer credits, Matt was able to transform his educational experience from a singular degree with a minor in Accounting to double Bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Accounting, alongside a professional minor in Commercial Real Estate Management—all within a three-year span.

“By taking on the professional minor, I know it has set me up for a second great career through owning my own real estate development and/or management company,” Matt says.

Matt’s time at Stevenson has been full of experiential learning opportunities. Initially journeying into the world of politics, he held an internship in Annapolis for a local delegate and then went on to work as a House of Representatives intern on Capitol Hill. Eventually, Matt worked in a small accounting firm close to campus, before applying and receiving an offer to work at JPMorgan Chase & Co. in their Global Finance & Business Management Summer Analyst program. Following his graduation, Matt will assume a full-time role at JPMorgan.

“Through the support of faculty and the rigor of the programs, I was challenged to think outside of the box by each professor and to make my work my own,” Matt says. Along with his firsthand experiences in the field, Matt had opportunities to network with industry professionals, hear from world-renowned individuals in business, and participate in career-building exercises. From competing in local supply chain competitions to attending Baltimore Speaker Series events, Matt feels well-prepared for his post-graduation endeavors. “I received advice that some people wait their entire career to hear, and it was exactly what I needed to get started on the right foot,” says Matt.

In 2021, Matt has become the first student in SU history to successfully pass both parts of the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exam, a professional certification credential in the fields of management accounting and financial management. With a Maryland Realtor License also under his belt, this much rings true: Matt is a jack of many trades, and will stop at nothing to master them all.
